My old pages from South and Central America are now finally back online, having been dusted off and spruced up for your viewing pleasure. It’s been a slow process as I don’t have as much time for blogging these days, but as always it’s been highly engaging to delve into the depths of my photo archives, and discover a few new things along the way.
My first trip to South America and indeed the Southern Hemisphere was in 2005, starting off in Brazil with Rio de Janeiro, followed by tropical times in Ilha Grande then soggy waterfall times in Iguazú. We crossed into Argentina before flying down to Montevideo in Uruguay, then up to Colonia del Sacramento and crossing the River Plate to Buenos Aires for a few nights to conclude the trip.
It was to be over eleven years before I returned to Latin America, this time to Costa Rica in 2016, including the capital San José, cloud forests around the Poás Volcano, and surf resort Jacó on the Pacific coast. I bolted on an extension to Panama, taking in the eponymous City and of course the famous Panama Canal, before spending a few days in the tropical islands of Bocas del Toro.
The final recent addition, although not Latin America but not too physically distant, is our trip to Barbados in 2023, staying on the glorious Platinum Coast near Holetown, and even venturing into the capital Bridgetown for some sightseeing between snorkelling trips.
